The Czech Republic is mainly composed of two regions: the Bohemia surrounded by mountains and thick forests and Moravia with the capital of Brno. Moravia, is an important wine region that offers numerous opportunities for food and wine tours in the various wineries. But it's not just this. The south is populated by villages that maintain the same identity of the past, with old merchant houses painted in various ways. Instead, its northern part is famous for the karst formations and caves, accessible also by tourists. The Moravian Karst, this is its name, is a protected nature reserve, north of Brno, not far from the town of Blansko. It includes about 1100 caves, but only 4 of these are open to the public, Punkva Cave, Catherine's Cave, Balcarka Cave and Sloup-Šošůvka Cave. Another attraction is the Macocha Abyss, a limestone chasm of 138 m depth, which was formed when the ceiling of an underground cave collapsed.
