China #16: Chengdu – the Teahouses- and Pandas-city [EN/GER]

On our trip to China, we have the feeling of moving from one highlight to the next. Yesterday evening, we came back from our incredible hike in the holy Huashan-Mountains and this afternoon, we continue to the Panda- and Teahouses-city of Chengdu!

After a last stroll through the False Market in Xi'an in the morning and souvenirs shopping full of negotiating (we did a good job ;-)), our train leaves for Chengdu in the afternoon. Within four hours, we move from one mega-city to the next - Chengdu has 15 million inhabitants. Thanks to Maps.me, we easily find our hostel after arriving at the railway station.

Of course, once we arrive, we really need - well, can you guess? - something to eat.

The next morning, we get up early. We are both very excited because the panda-breeding station is on our today’s program. Finally! Panda Babies, Panda Babies! We are coming!

Unfortunately, something in the hostel kitchen seems to go wrong this morning - we wait one hour for our breakfast. When it finally arrives, it's rush hour on the streets, so getting a ride to the panda-breeding-station is not worth it anymore for today. What a crap!
The only consolation were the pancakes, right? Well, wait - actually, they are the reason that we cannot see the panda babies today!

An alternative program is quickly set up for today: Wenshu-Monastery and teahouses in People's Park. So, let's go! The monastery is the best preserved Buddhist temple in the megacity of Sichuan Province. It is surrounded by a beautiful, jungle-like park with a huge pagoda, which we explore first.

After visiting the Wenshu-Monastery, a longer stay in the People's Park (distance about 30 minutes by subway) is recommended. The wonderful property is located directly near the Metro 2 (stop People's Park) and offers in the midst of the bustling city a green oasis of tranquillity.

We especially liked the bonsai garden with its beautiful trees.

The People's Park is a meeting place for many locals, especially during the weekend. People sing together (as in the following picture), make QiGong and drink tea together.

Of course, we also want to enjoy this flair and sit in a teahouse for a few hours.
We choose green tea and green tea with jasmine and enjoy the view and the atmosphere.

In the teahouses, you always get a thermos flask of hot water, so you can infuse the tea leaves again and again.

In the end, despite the lack of panda babies, we had a beautiful, quiet day. But be curious about our visit to the Baby Pandas in our next post! ;-)

Chengdu – die Stadt der Teehäuser

Auf unserer Chinareise haben wir das Gefühl, von einem Highlight ins nächste zu stürzen. Gestern Abend kamen wir von unserer unglaublichen Wanderung im heiligen Huashan-Gebirge zurück, und heute Nachmittag geht es weiter in die Panda- und Tee-Stadt Chengdu!

Nachdem wir morgens noch einmal gemütlich über den False-Market in Xi’an geschlendert sind und beim Souvenirs-Shoppen kräftig gefeilscht und verhandelt hatten, geht nachmittags unser Zug nach Chengdu. Innerhalb von vier Stunden kommen wir von einer Millionen-Stadt in die nächste – Chengdu hat 15 Millionen Einwohner. Zum Glück finden wir dank Maps.me problemlos unser Hostel.

Natürlich gibt es nach unserer Ankunft erst einmal – na, könnt ihr es erraten? – etwas zu essen.

Am nächsten Morgen stehen wir früh auf. Wir sind beide ziemlich aufgeregt, weil heute die Panda-Aufzucht-Station auf dem Programm steht. Endlich! Panda-Babies, Panda-Babies! Wir kommen!

Gerade an diesem Morgen scheint etwas in der Hostel-Küche schief zu laufen – wir warten 1 Stunde auf unser Frühstück, als es endlich kommt, ist schon längst Rush-Hour auf den Straßen, sodass sich eine Fahrt zur Panda-Aufzucht-Station für heute nicht mehr lohnt. So ein Mist!
Der einzige Trost waren die Pancakes – wobei, eigentlich sind sie ja der Grund, dass wir die Panda-Babies heute nicht sehen können.

Ein Alternativprogramm ist aber schnell aufgestellt: Wenshu-Tempel und Teehaus im People’s Park. Also, los geht’s! Der Tempel ist der am besten erhaltene buddhistische Tempel in der Millionenstadt der Provinz Sichuan. Er ist umgeben von einem wunderschönen, dschungelähnlichen Park mit einer riesigen Pagode, den wir als erstes erkunden.

Nach dem Besuch des Wenshu-Tempels empfiehlt sich ein längerer Aufenthalt im People's Park (Entfernung ca. 30 Minuten mit der U-Bahn). Die wundervolle Anlage ist direkt an der Metro 2 gelegen (Haltestelle People’s Park) und bietet inmitten der umtriebigen Stadt eine grüne Oase der Ruhe.

Besonders gut hat uns der Bonsai-Garten mit seinen wunderschönen Bäumchen gefallen.

Der People’s Park ist gerade am Wochenende ein Treffpunkt für viele Einheimische. Es wird zusammen gesungen (wie auf dem Folgenden Bild), QiGong gemacht oder zusammen Tee getrunken.

Auch wir möchten natürlich dieses Flair genießen und setzen uns für ein paar Stunden in ein Teehaus.
Wir wählen Grünen Tee bzw. Grünen Tee mit Jasmin und genießen die Aussicht und die Atmosphäre.

In den Teehäusern erhält man immer eine Thermoskanne heißes Wasser, sodass man die Teeblätter immer wieder von neuem aufgießen kann.
