The Silent Stone Giants of El Teide National Park, Tenerife - The Mundane as Art (Stones)

We stayed in La Caleta on the sunny south coast of Tenerife in the fall 2017. After a few days of relaxation on the beach, we decided it was about time to explore the natural beauties of this island in the canaries. So we rented a car and went up to El Teide Nationalpark.

The ascent from sea level to the El Teide national park surrounding the 3718m high Pico del Teide was a real challenge for our little budget car with its what felt like 2ps. But the views were definitely worth the getting up early, the enormous extra fuel consumption, and the worn out dome.

Maybe it was the sleep depreviation or the fact that we drove up so early that we were essentially the only people in the whole National Park, but there was an immense feeling of quietness, isolation, and eternity attached to the stone giants. On our way back down to La Caleta, the masses of tourist buses were just driving up, so it would probably have been a whole different experience, had we began our journey 2 hours later.

The Pico the Teide is not only the highest elevation on the canary island of tenerife, but also the highest mountain on Spanish territory. With over 7.500 meters above seabed, the Teide is the third highest island volcano on the planet. Almost 19.000 hektars of mountainous terrain surrounding the Teide are marked as the El Teide National Park. Since 2007, the park is part of the UNESCO World Nature Heritage

On our way back to our hotel, we stumbled upon this bizzare/beautiful stone column family that is apparently created by couples in love.
