As we celebrated the 61st birthday of our visitor from Holland, actually he is the brother-in-law of my husband. He wanted to treat us for dinner so we look for a restaurant near in our area and we finally choose Balsa sa Niugan

When we arrived at the Balsa sa Niugan there were a lot of costumers who were in waiting list and we were #11 in reservation list. We asked the birthday celebrant if he wants us to look for another restaurant because were going to wait for an hour, but he said he wonder why there were many people eating in this restaurant he thought that maybe the food were good so we waited for a couple of hours.

Discovering Balsa sa Niugan

While we were waiting for our call, let me share to you about this restaurant. From its name Balsa which means a small raft or boat, specifically one made of tightly bundled reeds and used on Lake or river. Niugan is the name of the place or barangay here in Malabon where the restaurant located.

Nelia Geronimo, is the family who runs this restaurant BALSA sa NIUGAN, and was established in July 1998. Balsa sa Niugan was originally a fishpond, which they converted into a restaurant. They first started with only four rafts. They also added pavilions for bigger groups and events like birthdays, wedding reunion and other form of events, actually the wedding of my sister-in-law in March 2014 was held here. Recently, they opened a coffee shop. They usually have more diners in the evening.

At the main entrance this is what you'll see, a wishing well and a grotto with the image of Virgin Mama Mary. Some mangoe trees on the parking area.

They have different areas designated for their costumers, for small quantity to big quantity of costumers. The place is very cozy but I advise you to wear pants because the area was a fishpond before they develop it into a restaurant, there are mosquitoes goafing around the area as if they are welcoming the costumers LOLS.
