Bucket - list / Santorini / Greek

After watching the film: Mamma Mia, I put this island to my bucket list. I think it is one of the most beautiful sea side which located in Europe. I haven't been there, but the pictures show how beautiful are they!

Santorini (in Greek: Σαντορίνη) is a circular volcanic archipelago in the Aegean Sea. Part of Greece, about 200 km southeast of Athens. The southernmost member of the Cycladic Islands.

Santorini is basically a remnant of an immense volcanic explosion that destroyed old settlements on the original island; this has created the current, largely water-filled caldera. Its spectacular beauty and lively nightlife have made the islands one of Europe's most attractive tourist destinations.

The area is 73 km². The island is guarding a massive volcanic explosion of 3500 years ago, which hit the center of the island and created a caldera. Facing the sea entrance, a much smaller island, Thirazia is located. The harbor of Thíra, Athinios and Old Port look inward as the capital, Fíra, is clinging to the top of the inner cliff wall. The caldera is 400 m deep and therefore suitable for berths of all kinds.

In the past month we also seen an interesting TV show, which has the thesis this island group might the remaining part of the lost Atlantis. Waiting for the new clues.
