Spotted: Another way of travelling AND how not to use a new Camera TIL

in #travel7 years ago

Recently I was on my way to meet a friend and had to refuel my car. While doing that, a really nice guy with a strange vehicle arrived to refuel his THING. I shortly talked to him and he was a quite nice older guy named Franz, spending his holidays travelling through Bavaria with his oldtimer tractor and a caravan. At the speed of 25 km/h !!!

I asked him if I can tell this story and take some pictures. Well... he agreed. So I got out my new best friend and started making some shots. Having forgotten to rearrange the settings. The night before I had tested some HDR photographing ...

When you do that in automatic mode, the camera takes three different pictures. One normal, one with very long and one with very short exposure. After that calculating the most fitting pixels into one image that normally has an amazing dephts and clearity. OF COURSE you need to use a tripod for that. What happens doing snapshots while on HDR you can see here:

and here:

Unfortunately, while on automatic mode, the camera directly calculates the new image and from the .RAW cant be extracted what used to be 3 images...
(at least I did not find a way, yet)

Next stop for Franz was Heidelberg (about 150 km away... so 6 hours of really cool old fashioned travelling)
I hope he got there save (and dry).

For those interested in the oldtimer:

The Fendt F25 Dieselross was build between 1951 and 1958. Only 300 of these have been build.
It has a weight of 1,6 tons
28 horsepowers or 20,5 KW
a cubic capacity of 2356 cm³

And probably we see here one of the best preserved version of it outside of a museum!

It would be really anoying in busy traffic, this travilling way would create slow movement of traffic. Unless you always travel arround the desert... still it looks cool... cheers

Haha... that may be true. Most will just enjoy seeing such a vehicle and don't mind slowing down a bit for that (the others may be idiots ;-) )

I wonder how long a trip around the world would take.

Hmmm. 40 000 km / 25 km per h : 1600 hours /24 = 67 days if you find loooooong bridges, if you make no stops, if you find the fuel and if you don't sleep.

(probably you can do it in about a year in realistic circumstances ... would be a lot of fun imho )

Really nice photographs @pollus.one sir, Franz oldtimer tractor and a caravan is awesome.
