Old Town Plaza
Blessed with a visit from out of town of town friends, a sunny first day of November, and a beautiful blue sky, we decided to take a small adventure to Old Town Plaza. Old Town is a historic area in Albuquerque, the original town from the 1700s laid out by the Spanish colonists who founded the city.
Many of the original adobe structures still remain, surrounding a grassy park with a gazebo. Lots of the buildings have strings of bright red chiles, called chile ristras, hanging from their eaves. Decorating with chile ristras is a popular tradition in the American Southwest.
Ivy adorns many of the buildings.
The Plaza was decorated for the current Dia de los Muertos holiday.
Closer to the river, with more moisture in the air, gardens are not a rare occurence in Old Town.
Old Town is a beautiful area of the city, that celebrates the past and the unique culture of Albuquerque.
