I know this is somewhat unusual entry for this contest but let me explain :) The Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos), one of the most popular Mexican holidays, is just around the corner and the Mexicans love their skulls, skeletons and other spooky stuff that you can find pretty much everywhere these days. These traditional painted ceramic skulls are known as “calaveras” in Spanish. I took this photo in a street souvenir shop in Playa del Carmen.
