Visiting the Great Ocean Road Victoria Australia

in #travel6 years ago (edited)

Dear Steemit community,

I keep going to post here concerning my travelling around the state of Victoria. Today my post is talking about my trip to Great Ocean Road few hours drive south-west from Melbourne.

The road began with an arch which commemorate the Victorians lost their life in the first World War.

In 1917 it was a citizen initiative to built up the road to provide employment to the returnmen. From 1919 works proceed in stages according to the availability of men.

Three-thousands ex-service men worked with pick and shovel using the material of the area in order to build this road.
Nowadays it is considered “one of the most beautiful ocean drives in the world”. The Great Ocean road stretches from Torquay to Nelson. It stretches from Torquay to Nelson and it combines native wildlife with stunning landscapes and conservation reserves.

(Australia always offer beautiful fauna and nature)

It is enjoyable all the year but the best time is from November to February. This trip was during the month of December unfortunately the weather was cloudy and windy but fortunately warm enough.

Now the main attraction in the Great Ocean the twelve apostles

A group of rocks originated by the erosion of the limestone cliffs in the mainland between ten and twenty millions years ago. The Gusty and stormy southern ocean continue this process of deterioration of this softer limestone and create some caves inside the cliffs. Nowadays eight left the ninth one collapsed in 2005

Among this rocks a beautiful beach surrounded by cliffs is located

I wish I could visit it in a more beautiful day. I definetely say it is a must for everybody who wants to visit Victoria . Also it is very well advertised. However it is not my favorite one in Victoria but I would just express my own opinion.

Thanks for your attention
