My trip in Paris part II
Hi Dear Steemit community,
Hope you're doing well
I keep writing about my stay in the French capital. For me it was pleasure to have visited one of the largest and famous museum on earth. Almost one day inside and immerged in a cradle of culture, history and arts. Actually requires more than one day to visit it.
The main entrance is inside the famous pyramid of glass. Under the pyramid a large hall welcome the visitors. People can choose from which wing they would start.
Actually there are are three wings Richelieu, Denon and the central Sully each one has a lower, a ground, a first and a second floor. With this short description is difficult to realize how large the museum is and how many artworks it contains.
The first part of museum I visited was the one the department Ancient Greek sculpture in the Sully wing ground floor.
Velletri Pallas which represents Athena the goddess of wisdom found near Naples. A sculpture attributed to Kresilas around 430 B.C. Unknown is itslocalisation in Athens.
Athena Partenhos (in Ancient Greek Athena the Virgin) is a statue dedicated to the one in the interior of Parthenon in Athens Greece. The technique is named chryselephantine (ivory and gold).
Very close the statue of “Athena Matei” because it was found in Palace Matei in 1626. It was an ancient replica of one original found close to Athens.
(In this photos it seems that I touched the statue but I did not...)
Zeus the master of the sky and thunders, and the king of the olympus in the ancient greek religion
Among these statues a representation of Eros the god of love as young boy with wings
More famous is the Venus of Milo. A statue found mutilated around the two arms. Milos in the western cyclades is the location where the statue was found in 1820. Completely uncertain the attribute the name of the statue.
Walking around the rooms in the department Siléne portant Dionysos (the God of wine), A centaur ridden by Eros the god of love (I-II centuries A.C).
Aphrodite sleeping (II century A.C).
And the statue of the Roman Emperor August around 27 B.C.
I really an elegance of the well-preserved roofs with their paintings and decorations.
I just write a short description of a department. I could not take a photos of all paintings, sculpture due to my battery. Even if it is not allowed to use flash to take picture and the battery lasts longer I was unable to take many photos. Only to some artworks.
I moved to the first floor between the Sully and Denon wings in the department of XVI-XVII centuries in Italy. Among the artworks my favorite is one of the three paintings of the Italian artist Andrea Mantegna dedicated to Saint Sebastain and done in 1480.
I was glad to see with my own eyes a masterpiece of Leonardo da Vinci situated in the first floor of Richelieu wing. The portrait of Mona-Lisa which looks still very well preserved. An enigmatic woman with a mysterious expression sitted in an immaginary landscape. Nowadays it is still a subject of studies. Many theories but not enough evidence about the mystery related such unique painting.
In the near room another painting I really like was “The liberty leads the people” made by the famous Eugene Delacroix represent a revolution took place in 28 July 1830.
In the same floor and wing the museum host also the luxurious apartments of Napoleon III, its large lounge its violet chairs, and the dining room with a large table.
In first floor of Sully wing and artwork from Ancient Egypt. The seated scribe found in Saqqara belongs to 4-5 dynasty (2400-2500 BC.) A statue of the Ancient Egyptian God Amon
It seems to be inside a labyrinth, in the reality it is just an impression because its large dimensions and the wide range of artworks it contains. I did not lose my way I just following the different indications and move to the department dedicated to Mesopotamia to see the two twin winged bulls with human heads still very well preserved. A authentic combination between man, bird and bulls, symbol found in certain gates of city or palaces in the near East.
If you spent more days in Paris and would visit museums I suggest to you to buy a pass which allow you to have some discount (https://www.parispass.com). And due to the large number of visitors it is better to visit the most important tourist attraction during the weekdays in order to avoid large queues.
The following day I headed to the Basilica of the Sacred Heart situated in Montmartre (or Sacré-Couer Basilica) dedicated to Jesus Christ.
Built in Roman-Byzantine style of XII century and in travertine stones typical of the region Ile-de-France. The plan seems to be an armed Greek cross with different chapels and mosaics. The interior has stained glasses and mosaics and a grand organ restored around 1900.
From its large dome visitors have the chance to see spectacular views of the city.
Later the weather became cloudy but fortunately it was not rainy. I decided to make a tour on the Seine river by boat. From the wharf situated close to the Tour Eiffel round trip.
Even if it was cloudy it would be a great idea. A different view of the city after almost all day walking. According to many people it is also romantic but it was earlier than the sunset and cloudy so not enough due to weather condition.
I would conclude these two posts dedicated to Paris with some photos of that tour.
Thanks for your attention
If you visit Paris hope you will enjoy it as much as possible.
Best Regards
