Self-Guided Cycling and Bushwalking Tour, Locally Sourced Food and a Private Plunge Pool - [Last Day @ Wolgan Valley]

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

Our last day at Wolgan Valley epitomised what a natural wildlife reserve should be. Equipped with mountain bikes we headed deep into the 7,000 acre heritage protected area and discovered untouched, natural beauty with plenty of wildlife spottings i.e. wallabies and kangaroos, native butterflies and birds.

However, couldn't start our day without a hearty breakfast! Each meal at Wolgan Valley is prepared especially for you - imagine going to a fine dining restaurant and being able to order anything from the menu, this is what it was like at Wolgan, we were definitely spoilt. They even draw animals in your coffee cup - how cute is this wombat!

They of course had some fresh food available to serve yourself but all the hot food is cooked to order

After breakfast, we headed out on our bikes and into the deep lands of Wolgan Valley...

It wasn't long until we came across some more of our native friends, can you spot how many kangaroos are in this photo? (By the way, these kangaroos were VERY MUSCULAR!! Definitely don't want to get too close)

We made a pit stop at Platypus Deck to chill and play by the river

This is me trying to look cool and failing miserably, not to mention trying hard not to fall into the mosquito water

Time to head back as we had a special tour scheduled

But first, lunch! We clearly have our priorities straight ;)

Next stop was a Colonial Heritage Tour where we had a guide take us through houses that were built and occupied in the 1800s by convicts and some wealthy families that owned a lot of land.

Emirates invested $2m into restoring the house you see on the right of the above picture. They tried to use authentic materials and techniques where possible to restore the house.

Once the tour was over, we headed over to the herb garden which is used by the restaurant here at Wolgan Valley. I love places that put effort into growing their own produce, really is a labour of love!

Of course, next to the herb garden were SIX WALLABIES! I still couldn't get over how many there were scattered all over the property.

Back to our villa for a quick dip in the plunge pool

...then off to dinner where we were treated to another delicious meal ending with a cheese dessert :)

Sadly this marked the end of our trip. Over these two days we were able to experience nature in all its beauty. Everything from the accommodation, to the food, the location itself and of course the natural habitat we got to experience was breathtaking. This resort is truly one of a kind and their conservation efforts in relation to both wildlife and the flora and fauna is highly commendable.

Somehow they've managed to succeed in creating a haven for animals and ultra-modern, luxurious accommodation whilst maintaining the natural beauty of the relatively untouched lands.

I hope you guys enjoyed this post and many kangaroo/wallaby sightings!! Don't be fooled, it's not a common sighting anywhere except regional areas so don't come to Sydney expecting to see them on the side of the road ;)

Until next time...!

(Yes there were more kangaroos out in our "backyard" - the black lumps are them!)

@phamished xx

P.S... I'll be back with some more of my food recipes shortly :)
