[Greek Adventure] Santorini - The Island with the sunset and colourful beaches [Part 1 - The beaches]

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

Hi Steemians! I'm @peterkkim96 and I'm back with another episode of my Greek Adventure! Ready for another post to warm up your cold winter days or some dazzling pictures to add to your desire to visit Greece?! In this next part of my Greek adventure, I'll take you to Santorini, arguably the most famous of the Greek Islands for it memorable sunset that is featured in the Instagram of anyone who has ever been to Santorini. But, I'll give you the view of the famous caldera in another post and in this one show you Santorini's famous black and red beaches!

Capturing the sunset! (Please excuse my facial expression, it was a very long and tiring journey to get to that moment in time)

Perissa black beach

The black sand here was created from the volcanic activity on the island, the molten rock from the various eruptions hardened and eventually formed the sand after undergoing processes of erosion. The sand here is a few degrees higher than the normal sand you may feel at a beach due to the black colour, so be careful when you step on it! I had to run to the water from my towel because my feet were burning! The good thing is that the water here is warmer due to the sand as well, so be ready for a nice, warm and relaxing swim! Also, remember to bring your snorkel gear because there are a lot of fish to look at!

I got an upgrade! This one goes up to 100km/hr!

But remember, a safe Peter is a happy Peter!

Nothing like some Gyros to fully enjoy what Greece has to offer!

Red Beach

The red beach of Santorini is the most famous beach on the island and one of the most colourful beaches you'll find in the world! It consists of reddish sand and pebbles that lie underneath a high red cliff. The weird red colour is due to the high concentration of iron in the rocks that formed from a volcanic eruption. The beach itself is actually recommended to be closed off because of the danger of falling rocks, but that doesn't stop tourists from walking down the slippery side path to get to the beach below!

My friend after my he jumped into the water fully clothed!

A little bit of filter to highlight the redness of the rocks

Bonus: Icecream store in the town of Oia called Lolita's

If you take a bus to the town of Oia, at the top of Santorini (where the famous caldera is), you'll easily spot the icecream store called Lolita's. I highly recommend this place for its clean and intense flavours! The service here is great too!

Hope you enjoyed the famous beaches of Santorini! In the next post I'll bring you the famous caldera and images of an archeological site on Santorini, so be sure to visit again!
