Episode #1 of my Spain Experience - My flight from Munich to Barcelona, How to get from the airport to the city centre and Park Guell

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

Hello Steemians, back again with my next series of episodes, this time on my trip to Spain!

How much was the flight

I caught a plane from Munich to Barcelona with Vueling for 63 Euros and it was a 2hr 5min flight. The plane ride was comfortable with ample leg room. Also, there was a free seat between me and my friend so we could just lie down for that extra bit of comfort when we napped.

!

How to get to the city centre

Getting to the city centre was really easy from Barcelona airport. There is a blue bus called the Aerobus and it is a shuttle service between the airport and Placa de Catalunya which is about the city centre. The bus departs every 5 to 10 minutes from 5:35am till 1am (Terminal 1) or 6am till 1am (Terminal 2). The price of the ticket is 5.90 euros for one way or 10.20 for return.
The bus ride is about 35 minutes and there is free wifi on board which was great. The tickets can be purchased from the driver with cash only (no large notes) or from vending machines. We bought our return ticket from the bus driver and it was a quick and easy process.

The bus is distinctly blue with a big sign saying "AEROBUS", its unmissable

Where we stayed

We stayed at St Christopher’s Inn, which was a backpacker’s hostel located just off Plaza Catalunya. The price was around 7 euros a night which was a good way to save. The facilities were clean and readily accessible, with entry into the rooms requiring a keycard giving added peace of mind.

Park Guell - The first place we visited in Spain

Brief history of the park
Park Guell was built somewhere between 1900 and 1914 and officially opened as a public park in 1926. It was designed by Gaudi during his naturalist phase and reflects his personal style inspired from organic shapes. Guell and Gaudi conceived the park together and they imagined it as a grouping of high-quality homes, with all the latest technological advancements and finished off with an artistic touch. However, it was commercially unsuccessful and has since been turned into a municipal garden.
Price of the ticket
Park Guell is divided into 2 areas: the Monumental Zone which requires a ticket and the free access area open to all visitors. The general ticket is 7 euros and it gives access to the main tourist attraction, the terrace.
