[Budapest Adventure] Exploring the nightlife of Budapest [Must visit pub inside!]

in #travel7 years ago

Hi Steemians! It's @peterkkim96 here exploring the nightlife of Budapest. I took a break from sightseeing to see what the hype regarding "ruin pubs" was about and I was really surprised! I have a new favourite place to hang out at night and I hope people back home in Australia build more pubs like the one below :)

Szimpla Kert

If we were to ask anyone in Budapest, where we should go for a nightout, then more likely than not they would suggest Szimpla Kert. From what I've heard, this place is the most famous nightspot in the city and was the inspiration behind the "ruin pubs" that have popped up in the area over the years. It has become one of the top tourist destinations over the years, especially amongst young people, and I'd recommend it as a must visit for its unique vibe.

You instantly feel the unique atmosphere as soon as you walk in the door

Initially, Szimpla Kert opened in 2002 a few streets away from its current location. But, in 2004, a chance presented itself to move to a bigger building in a relatively quiet spot in the 7th district. It's current location, 14 Kazinczy Street, had homes and a factory that had become ruins by 2004. The 4 owners of Szimpla Kert built upon this ruin to create the first unique "Ruin Pub".

At night Szimpla Kert is a hub of activity with some people drinking beer or cocktails while others are smoking shisha. There are large indoor and outdoor areas and also smaller rooms too that area themed. On some nights there is a line to get in, but it isn't a selection to get in. What I mean is, there aren't bouncers that don't allow certain people in, everyone is welcome! It's only that the capacity has been filled and so people can't be let in. It's a welcome and friendly atmosphere that's accepting of all people!

I thoroughly enjoyed my time here and had a nice cold beer while I spectated the people who came and the unique decor of the place!

Ramenka

After drinking at Szimpla Kert, we both got a sudden pang of hunger that comes with drinking. Sooooo we visited the ramen place opposite the bar called Ramenka! It was relatively cheap with a nice cosy temperature that helped relieve our bodies from the cold we felt outside.

Review of the food we had --> the Ramenka ramen: The soup was very tasty and was thick like ramen should be. It had a strong overriding pork flavour that helped bring the ramen to life. The only downside was the noodles, they weren't the normal ramen noodles that you would get at a true authentic ramen shop and they were kind of mushy.

Whether its during the day or night, Budapest really knows how to treat its tourists! If you have any questions about the places I've been up to now feel free to comment below and be sure to check out my other posts about Budapest!
