Holland Countryside!

Amsterdam has been our favorite city. Flocking there almost every year with friends. This time we decided to explore more of the countryside. The picture that always comes to my mind when i think of countryside of Holland are the windmill villages and the traditional costumes, wooden boots, tulips. We are the most lazy travelers. Unplanned trips have been the best and so we kind of plan our days on the same mornings.
Last day of our stay in Amsterdam in November and we decide we will explore the countryside. Few days of partying daily, we were exhausted and wanted some peaceful stay. Got out of our hotel. Walked to the reception and asked for the easiest way to travel to the best countryside places that can be explored in a day. Pat came the reply, Volendam and Zaanse Schans.
The most convenient and reasonable mode of transport is the train fro Centrale Station. However, as I mentioned earlier. We are too lazy. We booked a cab. It costed us 200 euros to cover both the villages at our own sweet pace till evening. There are several group excursions costing approximately 50euros per person covering both these places. But they have their fixed schedules.

We went to Volendam first. Such a gorgeous village. Once you enter the lovely traditional houses will attract your attention. Along the harbour there are several cafes and shopping places to collect souvenirs. Do not miss the Fish and chips, Kibbeling (Cod Fish).

There is a Cheese Factory here to know about the process of making the delicious cheese. We bought fresh cheese here. Though it was quite expensive than what we saw elsewhere in the markets in city. But the experience of visiting the cheese factory is worth every penny. You can try the traditional costumes here for clicking some good pictures.

The beautiful houses around Volendam just transport you to a different era.

We left for Zaanse Schans in afternoon. A delight to your eyes. This place was breathtaking. It was drizzling and the weather was chilling. But that made our day. The windmills lined up with a fresh green color around. Just out of a painting. The place was totally worth every penny. The landscape with the historical windmills is beautiful. Some of the mills are still being used for sawing wood, oil and flour generation.

This dutch countryside was something I wish to travel again to taste and explore some more.
