RE: overflying the atlantic passing a colleague
you hit the nail on the head 😄, we sometimes have longer layovers but like any company they don't want us lying on a beach preferably. So although it is nice to see different cultures and be in another country, there is generally not much time apart from a drink in the bar and a walk along the beach/ in the city.
But we sit long hours as well so trying to fit some excercise in is also important, so on a 24 hour layover there is limitied time.
We often do what is called bullets, like yesterday I flew up from London to Cancun and today we are flying back again from Cancun to London. So we do a weeks work in 2/3 days, ofcourse when we get back home or downroute u need to recover because longhaul flying can be hard work on the body in terms of timezones/ sleeping patterns and irregular lifestyle. So not all time at home is quality time when you feel knackered 😑. Generally we get 3/4 days off.
Which is just about enough to recover from a longhaul.
The upsides are that you get a lot of time off, a lot of freedom. Nice scenery in the office. Getting served coffee 😜. Sometimes it feels like the best job in the world and then sometimes being away from home is not what you want to do, but that is part of it as well.
I enjoy meeting new people and seeing new cultures, however I have been to our destinations so often they are all like second homes, so like anything you get used to certain things that other people might see as unique.
I can remember when I was 10 I was so jealous of my neighbour that he got to fly ever month to ireland up and down...... Now I sometimes long to the idea that it was still all new to me 😄
Overall I am very lucky with the job I have at the company I work with, it has given me a lot of good experiences and as I experienced a 9 to 5 job before, although sometimes it appeals to me to have a regular life, I think it would become a drag for me. On the other hand there are many companies (low cost operators) I would not work for, I rather hand my wings in and get and office job in IT.
I am now doing it parttime so I think I found a better balance between social life and work and I would advise anyone to try it if you have the option of living it smaller but having more freedom.
It sounds to me that you found your calling, and that the job is made for you. But yea, I just wanted to ask, because when your passion becomes your job things can change. I think the important thing is like what you do, reflect and realized that things are good, and to be thankful.
A quote that i Really like is “We tend to forget that happiness doesn’t come as a result of getting something we don’t have, but rather of recognizing and appreciating what we do have.”
The thing is that we are forgetful and we forget to appreciate quickly, so I try to appreciate daily the things I'm thankful for in life.
I'm very thankful for your long and awesome comment, I appreciate it a lot !
Hi Dan, thx.
Yes some quotes should not be just called quotes, perhaps there should be a better defition for them so that it would make sense to really live by them as guidance rules.
Like when we cross over we look either side to make sure we don't get run over.
So why shouldn't these rules be common sense to guide us through life,
Everyone knows they work, yet very few live by them, as you say forgetting what is important.
Yet we don't forget to look either side when crossing the road.
Not like a religion but as these quotes can probably be scientifically proven to enhance our state of mind, it would be cool to gather these rules and think of another definition for them.
Or maybe there already is, it is late and just had 3 gruweling days in the sim, so I might be alittle delusional 😄
You really made an awesome point! It is so true. One good quote can say more than an entire article or post and I think if we follow certain quotes it can change our lives. I had an idea back in the day that I would tattoo my favorite quotes on my body so I would always carry it with me at all time. The idea would be that it would imprint in my mind over time and thus change my behavior much like our parents rules did when we were small after hearing it over and over again. Hehe but unfortunately I'm not really friends with needles, I guess I could put it as a screen saver instead ;)
haha awesome, yes tattoos not for me either. Perhaps with augmented reality evolving you will have a screensaver in your right eye showing all your favourite quotes all day long 😜
That sounds like a good idea, or I have Morgan Freeman record it for me on Tape and I play it when I sleep 😴 It will be like God whispering it to me in my sleep hehe
haha
