CAMPING MICHIGAN: FRANKENMUTH

(Field dressing of a bullet removal - war reenactment)

We decided to head up to a small German town toward the upper peninsula to Frankenmuth, MI. I was stoked since I really dig on German food. Once we got there, it was apparent that this town is known for Christmas. Literally, a two-story Santa stood, towering over the town. This would also be the first time that I camped with my sister. Little did we know, we would stumble on a war reenactment, a Jeep fest, a mud run, and some awesome hiking spots.

We set up camp and began our night with some picnic pong. It was a fairly cool night, perfect for a bonfire. But, we couldn't stay up too late. The following day would be filled with a day hike north of Bay City.

Tobico Marsh was beautiful. Residing just off Lake Huron, we set off on the trails and found some great off-path areas. But, the most beautiful scene was the shoreline. I was struck by the simplicity of the pier.

We helped my sister pick shells for her collection and viewed the vast horizon through magnifiers.

But, something kept bringing me back to this pier.

After a long hike, we made it back to camp for supper and a few drinks. Okay, a lot of drink. The next day we ran a mud race, took a stroll through a war reenactment (you can see the field dressing in the featured photo), and checked out old Jeeps at Jeep Fest.

All in all, it was a good four day spent in a small town. Would I go back? Probably not.
