The Church of Saints Olga and Elizabeth has a very romantic history of its appearance. It all began with the incredible love of the Emperor of Austria-Hungary Franz Josef and his wife Elizabeth. Despite the fact that their married life could not claim the title of happiest, the emperor still incredibly loved his wife. 

Therefore, after the death of Elizabeth in 1898 from the hands of a terrorist, the monarch decided to build a church in her honor. According to the results of the competition held among the best architects of the present day, the project of the theodora Talevsky was recognized as the winner.

The first stone in the foundation of the Church of St. Elgesbeth was laid by Franz Josef himself in 1903. Part of the money for the construction of the church was allocated by the emperor, but the main contribution was made by railwaymen. That is why the church of Olga and Elizabeth in Lviv is located on the station square. Construction lasted for a long eight years.
