Lebessus, a ghost town.

in #travel8 years ago (edited)

Present day Kayaköy, a town in southwestern Turkye was once inhabited by Anatolian Greeks, until in 1922 they fled to Greece and the town perished.

Nearby Babadağ mountain.

Once a population of 2000, the fall of the Ottoman empire lead to a population exchange between Greece and Turkye, leaving Kayaköy a ghosttown and openair museum.

Build in the 18th century on the ancient site of Lebessus, a Lycian town.

About 500 houses remain, including old churches,

a house mosaic, done with pebbles you can find at the beach.

Ancient fireplace.

Sitting here in cold Europe, my travel posts increased these last days.
Enjoy the X-mas holidays people!
