A view on Málaga from the Alcazaba

in #travel8 years ago (edited)

Málaga, now the second largest city in Andalusia, sixth in Spain, was once part of the Moorish conquered empire, Al-Andalus. In 1348, my vantage point the Alcazaba was in the endphaze of it's construction.
I visited Málaga, during my tour of other then Moorish cities, Seville, Granada.

The Alcazaba is incorporated in a fortified stronghold, Gibralfaro fortress, with living quarters for the local Moorish nobility.

Typical for all Moorish palaces from Istanbul to Morocco are the watergardens, though small, certainly if you visit the Alhambra, it gives a quick glimpse, perhaps enough to further the interest in this historical time.

I haven't been to a Spanish bullfighting spectacle, doubt i will because of it's cruel nature.

It's still something that lingures from the ancients, who have build the fundaments of the later castle, a Roman theater lies against the hill,

the ramparts behind. Málaga was conquered in 600BC by Carthago and in 200BC by the Romans.

Lying by the sea, the atmosphere is a bit more relax i found then Seville, Granada, the deep Spanish cities. More focused on transport, a coming and going with more touristic attractions, but lacking in the sweaty, traditional, Flamenco-vibed groove that strikes one in the other cities when making shorter trips.

thanks for sharing these great photos. I really enjoy seeing far off places from a fresh perspective of someone just taking in their surroundings and commenting on them. Keep it up!
