In the heart of Transylvania #3 - The Most amazing Road in Europe - Transfăgărășan in Romania

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

In life, the most difficult roads that you want to get through are the roads that usually go to an amazing destination that you want to reach.
If you have a good friend and a full tank on your car or bike, then the most amazing road is waiting for you to ride on it and at the end destination to look the world from the clouds. In Romania within the Carpathian Mountains, the Transfăgărășan Road is the destination that many big car manufacturers choose to test and promote their toughest cars.

The Transfagarasan road or highway is considered to be the the most spectacular road in the world according to Top Gear. The total length of the road to the destination within the clouds around the mountain is about 90 km or 56 miles long and it was built by the Romanian dictator Nicolae Ceausescu around 1968, with the purpose to allow Romanian people to flee into the mountains in case of war.

Do not believe me when I say that this destination can take your breath away so many times until you get to the top, so just watch the next video that Ford Europe posted with their Ford Mustang tested on the Transfăgărășan road.

When you reach to the top, the Balea Lake, a glacier lake with a great landscape will amaze you if you visit the place during the winter as near it, during that time, you can find the first ice hotel built in Eastern Europe. If you visit it in the summer time, the glance of the sun on the surface of the water will fill your soul with peace.

Around the lake you will find some mountain huts that can offer accommodation and I guaranty you that if you decide to stay here for just a couple of days you will be amazed about the view of the swirly roads of the Transfăgărășan.

When you get to the top, you might feel some pressure on your head after a while as the height to which you will get is at around 2100 meter and the road that got you there has sharp turns and up and downs. The disadvantage is that the road is normally closed from October till June due to the snow conditions but this can also not be a problem for those who like hiking and for those who want to test their resistance.
If you choose to stay on the top over the night you will definitely delight your sight with the fast moving of the car lights that during the night seem to be more accelerated as the road is less crowded.

With all this being said, the Transfăgărășan road is a delight of sight and a place that makes me feel proud that I am Romanian. It is a delight of those who love nature and all this can be reflected through the fact that a lot a tourists from all over the world appreciate this place that is a must see for young and old.
