Strasbourg is a city in the east of France and lies on the left side of the Rhine. It represents the capital of the province of Elzas and is the largest city in this country and the only city in the world that was proclaimed World Heritage by UNESCO in 1988. It is not the capital of any state, but it belongs to the three cities where the headquarters of international organizations are located.
It is a significant place given the seat of the Council of Europe, the European Parliament and the European Court of Justice.
Since it is located in the center of Western Europe, it is very busy and well connected. Its natural traffic link is the valley of the Rhine River.
Its position is also within the same distance from the Baltic, Mediterranean and Atlantic Ocean, about 750 km and 500 km from the Adriatic and the North Sea, which points to its significance.

In modern times, this city is characterized by the so-called Art nouveau modern direction characterized by buildings built as an Egyptian house. In this period there is modernization, street and squares editing, tree planting, harbor editing, an elzas`s theater and a museum are also being formed as a feature of the culture of this city.

In the sixties of the twentieth century this city was a place of peace between France and Germany. Also, over time, bridges were built connecting both Rhine and thereby increasing their traffic connections.

In Strasbourg there is a semi-continental climate characterized by strong temperature changes.
The summers are very hot and sparse and the winters feature very low temperatures with high precipitation. The years are stormy, and the winds are very rare.
The average altitude of this city is about 140 m above sea level and is characterized by mostly low and flat terrain. Larger altitudes are recorded in the city center.

The city is also very rich in green areas. The largest part of the north and south-east is covered with vast forests that are provided mostly along the river. This place is also preserved and a significant habitat of devouring animal species.
Also, the city is distinguished by a large number of parks and gardens, a kindergarten and a zoo.

This city is characterized by floods, since it is surrounded by a large number of rivers and the drying of certain channels is necessary.
River traffic is very important for the city. It is a very important tourist center, visited annually by some 700,000 tourists, most often coming from Rhine or Marne Canal. Its port is the second largest river port in France with more than 8 million tons of goods per year.

The city has a very developed and highway network, but it has a negative impact on air pollution. The traffic is very saturated, after Paris the most heavily enriched in France.
