Kid Loves "Violence!"

I am an English teacher in Saigon. People with Vietnamese as their first language quite often have difficulty with "ending sounds" when they're learning English. For example, I am teaching clothes this week. I'll say "T-Shirt" and they'll say "T-Shir..." and miss out the "t" sound at the end.

Some kids who are beginning to understand that English needs an ending sound still make little mistakes as they try to get it right, and quite often a mistake they make is that they add an ending sound where there shouldn't be one, and sometimes it leads to unfortunately hilarious misunderstandings.

Yesterday I was reviewing the alphabet with one class, "tell me a word that starts with..." we got to the letter V, and a little girl put up her hand.

"Me, teacher!"

"Yes, okay! Tell me a V word!"

"VIOLENCE!!!"

Awkward pause ....... "Do you mean Violin?"

"Yes, teacher! I love violence!"
