Travel challenge #27: Stob Piramids

Hello, friends;) Today I will introduce you one of the wonderful places in my country Bulgaria. Last weekend I decided to make this trip to the Stob Pyramids, which I had long planned. The clean mountain air and breathtaking views make this trip truly unforgettable to me, let's enjoy it. Тhis is me at the start of this journey.

The unique rock formations, known as Stob Pyramids, have been declared a natural sight since 1964. They are located above the village of Stob, Kyustendil region, in the western part of Rila.

The area in which they are located is characterized by strange cuts to the ground, creating the feeling that a man has fallen into a fairy stone forest. The pyramids themselves are made of sandstone and conglomerates in yellow and brown, in places with reddish tones. Formations with conical shape predominate. Many of them are crowned with stone "hats" that resemble them with huge mushrooms. Their height varies between 7 and 10 meters, but separate pyramids, The chimney chimneys reach more.

Over the millennia, various erosion factors have worked and acted on the Stob Pyramids: water, temperature inversions, winds. They continue to sculpt strange forms of earth, but they also bear their destruction. That's why rock formations are in a continuous process of change - some die and others are born.

Stob Pyramids have long attracted human attention, giving rise to many legends. One of them reminds of the legend of the origin of the Stone Wedding near the village of Zimzelen, Kardzhali: wind lifted the bride of the bride and struck by its heavenly beauty, the father-in-law was conquered by unclean thoughts. His sin led him to the engraving of the entire wedding procession. The names of many Stob Pyramids are related to the legend: the Bride, the Swabians, the Brothers.

The natural phenomenon Stob Pyramids is an easy-to-visit object. The Strouma highway leads to the road to Boboshevo, from where it takes the old road to Blagoevgrad and turns left to Kocherinovo and Rila. About 2 km after the town of Kocherinovo to the right is the exit to the village of Stob. After another 2 km it reaches the foothills of the Tsurvichtete and Kulski Rid, where the pyramids are located. At this end of the village there is a parking lot, information signs and a ticket booth. From there, a path leads to the first groups of pyramids reaching for about 15-20 minutes of walking.

Besides the rocky pyramids of the village of Stob and its surroundings are also famous with a rich historical past. In the place of the village was a medieval town of the same name, mentioned in the Rila cemetery of Ivan Shishman (1378).

Since the end of the 14th century are the foundations of the church "St. Procopius ", located in the locality of Tsarkvishteto. Destroyed in the centuries of Ottoman domination, it was rebuilt in the village (1860), and the stone of the old church was used for its construction. From there the altar chair was moved.
