   Even with temperatures as high as 36 ⁰C, you will still have a fun leisurely time in China’s Thousand Island Lake.

             The best times to visit are in September up until November when the temperature drops and there are less chances of rainfall. It is a place, though, that you can visit at any time of the year because of its numerous attractions.

           The Thousand Island Lake has been a well-hidden treasure up until recently when the area has seen a rise in the number of tourists. Spanning approximately 580 sq km, Thousand Island Lake or Qiandaohu/Qiandao  Lake is a man-made lake formed after the construction of Xin’an River hydroelectric plant. 

It is one of China’s largest forested parks so you can definitely enjoy the forest and the lake views, as well as the clean air. As its name suggests, it has 1,078 islets.

         The Thousand Island Lake is divided into several districts. Most tourists opt for a tour around the Southeast Lake District and the Central Lake District.  

   If you choose the Southeast Lake District, you shouldn’t miss hiking around Bird Island. There are a variety of birds including colorful peacocks which are well-worth a photo. Bird Island is connected to Tianchi Pond where you can feed koi for a small fee. If you are short on time though, it is best that you go to Tianchi Pond first and take a tram ride to Bird Island.   

         The Central Lake District’s highlights include mingguan Island and the Wulong Scenic Area. mingguan or Meifing Island has the lake’s highest vantage point. You can reach the island via cable car. In Meifing, you are guaranteed one of the best panoramic views of the entire area.

On the other hand, the Wulong Scenic area is made up of several islands connected by bridges. Bird Island is reachable via this route too. Lock Island, Zhenqu Garden, and Qishi are some of the more well-known islands that comprise the Wulong Scenic Area. Hiking is one of the more popular activities to do here because of the convenient bridges and trails that dot the islands.

            Don’t be afraid to explore the other districts like the Southwest Lake District, Northeast Lake District, Northwest Lake District, and Fuxi Stone Forest. Again, each district has something distinct to offer you.   

         Getting to the Thousand-Islet Lake is also very convenient. Depending on where you’re from, you can either take the high speed trains or the buses to the different bus stations around Hangzhou. If you are from Huangshan, you can take buses going to Shendu to the ferry wharf.

There also different options for the sight-seeing ferries. You can choose between the luxury boat or the yacht charter. You can also arrange for private boat trips where they can usually pick you up from your hotel and drop you off wherever it is convenient for you right after the tour.   

Whatever tour you choose and however you choose to get there, you are guaranteed to have a fun leisurely time in China’s Thousand Island Lake.
