St. Martin's Island, Bangladesh

Before visiting the Cox's Bazar beach and Maheshkhali Island we went to St. Martin's Island, the beauty queen of Bangladesh. This island is in the northeastern part of Bay of Bengal & southernmost part of Bangladesh land.

The island initially was called "Jazeera", about 250 years ago Arab sailor started the settlements there and finally during British occupation this island named after Mr. Martin who was the deputy commissioner of Chittagong that time.

Local people calls the Island "Narikel Jinjira" (Coconut Island) due to so many Coconut trees in this Island and most of the trees you will find at the middle-south or the southern part of the Island.

You will find so many Keya tree surrounding the island, these trees are protecting the island from high tides and winds.

If you like fresh fish fry, fresh air, fresh coconut water and so many stunning views like the below sunset please visite St. Martin's Island. I confirm that you will be happy to be there. Don't forget to take your best Camera and walking gear also, sun protection.

The Island got both sandy and coral beach, you need to beware during swimming at beach, asking local or resort's people to show the sandy beach is the good option.

The Island is only 0.5 km² in width and at the mid point the width is way narrow. It got more than 10 resorts to welcome you and most of the resorts are located near to the beach area. Local peoples are good and helpful. It is recommended to take a local guide if you want to track the island and please try to stay couple of nights to enjoy full beauty of the Island.

The 8 km² main Island got a adjoining Island called "Chera Dwip" is one of the unique Island of the world as it is based on Coral Reefs.

Chera Dwip from good distance, it is just above the sea level so it looks like nearly no land feom the good distance. This island really popular options for the tourist around the world.

There is no shade and trees but some Keya Tree which will protect you from sun if you have a plan to stay there for long hours but it would not safe as the land get separated from the main island during tide while almost half of its land goes under water and there are specific hours of boat visiting the island.

The water is Crystal Clear so you could see everything at 8/10 feet below water!
