The source of the Nile; One of the great geographical mysteries in the World.

in #travel6 years ago

At a length of more than 6,600Km, the Nile is regarded as the longest river in the world running through 11 countries; Egypt, Rwanda, Sudan, South Sudan, Burundi, DRC, Tanzania, Kenya, Ethiopia, Eritrea and definately Uganda. This huge size has made it's source a major topic of interest around the World, and it's location being in Uganda has been a big privilage for the country.

The Source of the Nile is located in Jinja, at a site which was discovered by a European explorer John Speke whose study showed that it provided 30% of the water in river Nile; 70% of which comes from other sources mostly Lake Victoria. One needs the help of a boat to reach this site which is characterised by a lot of calmness. At the exact spot, bubbles can be seen in the water, a sign that there is water coming from underground. From here, the intensity of the water increases gradually as it passes over rocks creating falls.

This interesting feature attracts hundreds of thousands of tourists to River Nile each year, and has played a pivotal role in turning tourism into one of the top revenue earners in the country. There are many more features across the Nile and I should say it's worth a visit for people that love travelling.
