Diamond Head Crater Trail Hike - Oahu, Hawaii

My husband, @donvee, and I returned to Hawaii for our 10 year wedding anniversary in October. We traveled to Maui and the Big Island on our honeymoon and made a promise to return for the big 10 year anniversary. On this trip we spent the first half of our stay on Oahu and the other half on the Big Island. We flew nonstop from Newark, NJ and after an 11 hour flight we checked into our hotel room and relaxed the rest of the evening.

The morning of our first full day in Hawaii, we hiked Diamond Head. We had heard that it gets very crowded in the afternoon so right after breakfast we headed for the park.

It was relatively crowded by the time we arrived at the parking lot, but there were still a few spots available. The hike to the 760-foot summit was pretty easy, but please bring plenty of water with you! There's barely any shade and it gets HOT in the afternoon.

There are many switchbacks taking you to the lookout, and we stopped quite a few times to enjoy the beautiful views.

We did the hike in sneakers, but we saw more than a few tourists in flip flops and one girl who was wearing platform sandals.

The views of Waikiki from the viewing decks were amazing.

We also came across a few of what I like to call "stick figures in peril."

I might do a whole post just on these guys. We took photos of quite a few of them while on our trip.
