Splendid Madrid
We had a bit of free time sans guide while in Madrid and were staying at a nice hotel along the Gran Via which is the main tourist area. Our guide had suggested we enjoy our morning at Plaza Mayor and after breakfast, the four of us did just that and more.
The Plaza Mayor, one of the oldest squares is located in the heart of Madrid and only a few blocks away from Puerta del Sol and the Royal Palace. It is surrounded by three-storey buildings with porches all along the Plaza. The atmosphere here is lively and a great open space to hangout.
With the Puerta del Sol and the palace so close by, we wandered into these marvellous landmarks as well. My mind is now going back and forth which of my snapshots are of which landmark. It's hard.
I knew that this vibrant public square is the Puerta del Sol (Spanish for "Gate of the Sun") when we came upon the Kilometre 0 of the radial network of all roads in Spain.
I must say I spent a most pleasant morning roaming around and just enjoying the weather, fine architecture around me and the people who were there to partake in the pleasure of weekend leisure.
