Olympic Walk of Fame
The park was constructed for the 1972 Summer Olympics and to date it is still used for social and sporting activities. On our visit there one September, the park was pretty busy with tourists who like us were sightseeing. There were school children on a day trip and locals just enjoying the good weather and the calm beautiful lake. Children were feeding ducks and pigeons by. the lake and elsewhere athletes were swimming or carrying on with their exercise routines.
A very interesting feature at the Olympic Park in Munich are the handmarks and signets left by famous personalities in concrete along the banks of the man-made lake. Almost like the Hollywood Walk of Fame with shiny stars embedded in the sidewalks at Hollywood Boulevard. Here, there are no stars but rustic scrawls.
I think this Olympic Walk of Fame is also different from those in Australia and Canada that only commemorate the accomplishments of athletes and Olympians.
Some of the names that I remember seeing on the Walk are Lionel Richie, Frank Beckenbauer, Earth, Wind & Fire, David Copperfield , Ronan Keating and many more.
The park is also quite close to the BMW Headquarters where we later spent a couple of hours admiring the car models on display.
At first look of the first picture I thought of Egyptian hieroglyphs but yes it wasn't :) Thanks for sharing!
