Jericoacoara, Brazil: Pedra Furada

in #travel7 years ago

Some of you were interested in seeing more pictures of our trip to Jeri, so here we go! One of the most popular sites to see at Jericoacoara is Pedra Furada. It's a large rock with a very distinct and interesting shape. All the shops in Jeri have items with this shape on them because it's a very popular attraction there. There are several ways to get to this location once you are in Jeri... but we didn't know that and we took the hardest way possible :P haha We used a map of the area and walked down a huge cliff side and climbed back up when we were done... but you can actually hire a boat at the main beach area! Also the 4 wheeler and transfer services offer a tour there and you can ride the 4 wheelers there. It was our first day there and we didn't know that though. We were just really excited to get out there and find it and see it! Gotta love that adventurer spirit! XD Here are some of our pictures we took at Pedra Furada! :)

This first day was a little cloudy and it had been raining earlier so the pictures aren't as bright as it usually is there. I'll include some extras of the surrounding area on the second time we went there. We actually got to go the second time for free because we ordered a different trip but our guide had another couple going with us that paid to see Pedra Furada as well, so he said we could come along to and he'd do all the trips in one! That was very nice of him and it goes to show that people can be pretty friendly and hospitable there!

Here are the pictures from our second trip. It was more crowded this day so we didn't take pictures of Pedra Furada, only the surrounding area :)

Making the hard walk there had it's own good points though because we walked along a way that we probably wouldn't have done otherwise! It had some very nice views and we saw a lot of cactus, donkeys, cows and horses. I found it very unusual to see cactus near the ocean, maybe it's just because I'm not from an area where there are cactus, but I've always imagined they were in dessert areas with not so much water haha Also, I must note, if you do go the hard route at least there may be a local selling coconut water at the base of the cliff! He had a cooler full of coconuts and had a hole drilled in them with a straw and you could drink the water straight out of the coconut! I got my fiance one and she really enjoyed it :) She really didn't want to walk down that big cliff in the first place, so it was the least I could do for her after I convinced her to do it ;) haha

Hope you all enjoy! I'll post some pictures and information about Por Do Sol Dune next if anyone is interested in it! Hope you all have a great day and if you have any questions about Jericoacoara I'd be happy to tell you what I know of the place from my experience :)
