Hidden Beach - Mexico

in #travel9 years ago

Do you want to sunbath in a bit of privacy? Then visit the hidden beach in Marieta islands in Mexico.

The hidden beach is one of the most intriguing natural features of Mexico. The beach is fully engulfed by a massive cave, and the sunlight comes in through a large hole at the roof of the cave.

This fascinating beach can only be reached by swimming or kayaking through a long underwater tunnel in the Pacific ocean, before boarding an hour-long boat ride. A permit is needed to visit the island by boat.

The beach is situated on the Marieta islands, off the coast of Puerto Vallarta on the western side of Mexico.

The island features plenty of flora and fauna and there are coral reefs in the water.

It is believed that during world war I, Marieta islands were used as bombing practice targets by the Mexican government, and as a result the cave got its unique sunroof.

The islands were chosen for these military practices because they were uninhabited. In 2005, the islands were named a national park and are now protected lands.

Have you been? It would be such a shame to travel all the way there and then see it crowded with loud tourists!

That's really cool. Thanks for sharing!
