Walking on the Peace trail
Last week I went on a trip with my family. We drove to Tolmin, where the path then led us to the nearby hill called Kolovrat.
We left the car on a smaller car park and then we walked to the top of the hill, which highest point is about 1114m above sea level.
But this isn't just an unusal hill. In fact, it is an open-air museum where during the First World War the Italian army built a comprehensive system of the third defense line called "Linea d'armata" in the Italian language.
And part of that system you is arranged in an outdoor museum which continues on the Italian side..
There was so much to see. We saw command and observation stations, machine guns and artillery positions,
caverns,
diving trenches, and, to a large extent, original materials that were useful in the war time.
At the top of the hill we were awaited by a wonderful view,
which extends from the mountain called Kanin in the west, the Krn Mountains in the north, to the Sveta Gora, Benecija,
and even to the Adriatic Sea on the south.
Even though it was Sunday, and a new working week waited for us the next day, we took the time for exploring the surrounding area. When we comfortably tired arrived home, you can imagine that we drowned in dreams instantly.
I hope that you forgot for a while the present and simply walked with me into the past.
Photos made by me, and my Vernee smartphone.
