Maracay is a Venezuelan city, capital of the municipality of Atanasio Girardot and Aragua state. It is located in the central region of Venezuela, on the shores of the Cordillera de la Costa, and is located 109 km southwest of the city of Caracas. It is frequently nicknamed "the Garden City" and to a lesser extent as "the Cradle of Venezuelan Aviation" and "the Cradle of Great Toreros".

It is known as the cradle of Venezuelan aviation, both civil and military. Here was born in 1929, the first airline in the country, Aeropostal, whose home airport was the Base Mariscal Sucre, the first school of the National Armed Forces. The city is a recognized industrial zone and important cultural center by its amount of museums, theaters and libraries.
