HISTORICAL BUILDINGS IN NIGERIA

Many tourist hardly take notice of historical buildings while visiting a new place. Such visits helps to expand the knowledge of the environment. Nigeria has buildings that are of historic importance. Some of the historical building to visit include :

• FIRST STOREY BUILDING IN NIGERIA.
  The foundation of the building was laid in 1842 while the house was completed in 1845. The white one-storey building has its corrugated iron sheet roof over looking the marina waterfront. It is the most popular missionary house in Badagry because the first set of missionaries in Nigeria settled at the building. The building has 6 sitting rooms, 4 stores and a safe where precious items are kept.

• MARY SLESSOR HOUSE, CALABAR.
  The house was built in the 19th century, the Mary Slessor house was once occupied by the iconic Scottish missionary Mary Slessor who was best known for stopping the killing of twins in calabar. She decided to stay among the people of Calabar instead of the missionary quarters with her colleagues. The result of that decision is the house named in her honour which still stands till this day as a testament to her selfless service and courage.

• FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, CALABAR.
  Calabar is an important tourist destination because of its closeness to the Atlantic ocean which attracted the attraction of foreigners especially European missionaries and colonialist. The first Presbyterian Church in Nigeria was founded by Rev. Hope Masteron Waddel as early As 1846 in Calabar and from Calgary the church began to grow. It has endured a lasting legacy of missionary work in Nigeria. It is such a wonderful place to visit.
