Hierapolis – Impressive Holy City
In 1988 UNESCO have made decision about including Hierapolis city located in Denizli Province, Turkey to the list of World Heritage site.
Hierapolis was founded in the second century BC on the top of hill near hot springs now named Pamukkale.
When I have come to this old city I was impressed by the level of development of this civilization. Hundreds of artifacts surrounded me.
Ancient marble columns, elements of buildings and pitchers,...
saved ruins and rests of water system reflected the prosperity of the city.
Also here there is big exposition of sarcophaguses. As guide has explained at that time many old persons visited this springs to spend here last years of the life.
Among other here there are the theater, rests of gates and streets constructed using huge stones.
However taking into account the short time of the tour and dominated wish to be for a longer time on the Pamukkale hill I did not visited all wonderful places of the city.
Therefore if you plan to visit Pamukkale and Hierapolis please take into account that you need whole day to observe this unique place!

Looks like ruins now, but must have been impressive during its heyday. When I was small I went to Turkey and saw some ruins. I don't remember what it was though.
You are right. These are ruins. However in this place the amphitheater is retained in its entirety. In Turkey there are many historical objects. Some of them I visited already. May be I will publish the pictures here and you will be able to remember places which you visited in your childhood :D
