The Cleanest village of Asia..

Mawylynong of Meghalaya

Mawylynong village is not just India's but Asia's cleanest village. The village head Mr. Thomlin says that villagers are in to cleanliness since many generations. Their ancestors have not only taught them the advantage of cleanliness, but also the importance of keeping the environment clean. "The main who maintain cleanliness keep away diseases" The village head will punish the villagers if they don't clean the village.

In the year 2003 Discover India magazine awarded this village the Cleanest village of Asia title! They play an important role in cleanliness of the village.
They have placed bamboo dustbin in all the corners of the village. Everybody loves cleanliness in the village.
Solar panel lights are an ideal example of electricity conservation. It's also clean energy source.

As it is Asia's cleanest village it is obvious to grab attention of some tourist. And let me tell you that the tourist who litter are asked to give some donations for its cleanliness. Of course! They won't let you escape so easily. If you litter the place you'll have to make arrangement for cleanliness. Every morning they sweep the roads so it look great and become clean because it's their habit of cleanliness. Many tourist says that people of this village is very friendly, if you give smile they give you nice smile back. And it is their favourite place in India.

Villagers collect all the dried leaves and flowers in a pit and turned into manure in about 2 years. Left over food like rice and vegetables is fed to the pigs outside the village.

Most of the house have soak pit. The village Council has ordered the house owners who don't have a soak pit in the house to make one soon.
Whenever the new house is being built in this village it's mandatory to build the toilet before house get constructed. The resident of village have been following this custom since 24 years.

This is how Asia's cleanest village Mawylynong has brought fame to India... It was unimaginable.....
