Eighth wonder of the world. Angkor

in #travel7 years ago

Angkor is a Mecca for pilgrims from all over the world, alone the Chinese here is 40 million a year. Angkor was the capital of Khmer Empire for over 600 years, from 802 to 1432. During this time the Empire has seen UPS and downs, the constant war with their neighbors: Vietnam and Siam (Thailand) and Burma (Myanmar). Between the wars the rulers directed their efforts to the construction of new temples. The temples that can be seen today — only a small part of a huge powerful Empire.

The ancient city of Angkor — the unique historical heritage of Cambodia. Once the cities and the largest center in the territory of Indochina, Angkor today is a huge Museum temples with an area of 200 km² under the open sky. The complex is about 100 temples.

The largest pearls of Angkor, the temples Angkor Wat and Angkor Tom was built in the classical period of the city's prosperity.

4
Pearl's visit to Angkor-the magnificent Angkor Wat temple. The profile of its spires has practically become a symbol of Cambodia. Angkor Wat consists of five towers of the Central shrines, three rectangular galleries, rising in height towards the center, surrounded by a moat of water with a width of 190 m. the Overall profile imitates a Lotus Bud. From the entrance gate, on the Western side, the Temple is a walkway with a fence decorated with seven-headed serpents.

To build a Hindu temple, Bakong (Bakong) started king Jayavarman III, but finish it he did not. The temple was completed and consecrated his successor Indravarman I in the year 881. Five tiers of the pyramid temple and other elements symbolize the sacred mount Meru, and the temple was dedicated to Lord Shiva.

22
Bakong corresponds exactly to the Hindu cosmic symbolism: the temple represents mount Meru, the first ditch — cosmic sea from which arose the mountain, and dry land — a land inhabited by people which, in turn, is surrounded by mountain chains (the city walls) and one sea (the second row).

Angkor Thom-the great city, surrounded by eight-meter high wall. Each side wall has a length of 3 km, outside of the wall protects a wide 100-meter moat filled with water. It is believed that in the heyday of Empire there were about a million people.

26
Standing on the bridge, protecting the city, 108 stone figures, 54 right Devatas (deities), left side 54 of the Asura (demon). The Devatas and Asuras were supported by a multi-headed Naga (snake) — Khmer symbol rainbow, bridge between earth and heaven. A number of sculptures — Naga, the seven heads which are ready to pour a deadly poison. Over the gate — four stone faces, looking in different directions.

27
Bayon-the temple with huge stone heads found at every step, is the jewel of Angkor Thom. Only 54 towers of the temple is 216 goals.

The construction of TA Keo (Ta Keo) was started in 975, the year of Jayavarman V (968-1001). This is the first temple of Angkor built from Sandstone. The temple is dedicated to Shiva.

To the top of the pyramid of the temple are stairs. Each step has a height of about 40 cm, about 10 cm wide, so the foot can only be made sideways, holding on to the top of the stairs. And so 22 metres — up
