My Lisbon, Portugal Travel Photos

I was very excited to visit Lisbon, Portugal one of the European countries which I was wondering about. I was traveling by ship and I took this lovely sunset photo on the ship.

I had only one day to visit this lovely city and I will share some of the places I visit during this short time. First, I took the ferry in Portugal and get across the Portugal suspension bridge to visit The Cristo-Rei statue. The ferry journey takes approximately 15 minutes and you can watch the Tejo River which is the longest river in the Iberian Peninsula. After the ferry, you can take the bus 101 at the bus station to go to statue which is near the ferry terminal and you can buy the ticket from the driver. The bus goes to Cristo Rei statue approximately 20 minutes.

The Cristo Rei statue is 28 meters tall and stands on 75 meters pedestal. The monument is constructed in 1959, on the highest point of Almada, Portugal. Monument is constructed to thank the church for keeping Portugal out of the Second World War. Cristo Rei means Christ the King in Portuguese. Afterwards, I went to Basilica de Estrela.

Also, you should see Mosteiro dos Jeronimos which is a highly decorative and gorgeous monastery that is situated in the Belem district of Lisbon. This famous religious building is the place that Vasco da Gama spent his last day before his voyage to the far east.

Finally, I visited The Torre de Belem (Tower of Belem) which is constructed in the 15th century by King John II as a defense system at the mouth of the Tagus (Tejo) river. The tower is beautiful at night as you can see from the picture. The tower was first sight of home for returning Portuguese sailors during the 16th century. I also tasted the pastry of Belem which is delicious and suggest you go Pasteis de Belem to taste those delicious sweets.
