ICELAND The Blue Lagoon, Like a different planet! WOW! (All photos my own) 35mm Nikon

in #travel7 years ago

Been to 35 countries, Iceland is on the top of my list. Been 3 times! Must see, must go place!

The population of Iceland for the entire country is the same as a medium size city elsewhere. About 300,000 people in the entire country.

The things that most impressed me:

  • Super clean air. No haze!
  • Temperature really not that cold. Very green at times
  • Like being on a different planet
  • Negligable traffic
  • Very nice people
  • Language supposed to be almost exactly what the Vikings spoke
  • The people I met are very proud of their country
  • Drill one well for cold water, drill another deeper well for hot water.
  • Much more

A local told me an Iceland joke. He said, “If you get lost in the forest of Iceland, stand up!”
In reference to the very short trees!

The first place I have ever been where there is absolutely no haze. You have completely clear air all the way to the horizon!

The Blue Lagoon, relaxing and swimming in super hot water with very high mineral content. Places so hot, I doubt a human could venture, but you can find an area perfect for you. For those who really like to be pampered, full body massages on a floating mattress that floats just enough to keep you submerged and level.

This day when I was at the Blue Lagoon, the ambient air temperature was 32 degrees Fahrenheit (0 Celsius)

We drove about 1200 kilometers North of Reykjavik.
When you travel very far away from the larger cities, no hotels are available. But there are places to stay. Someone’s home and usually a great breakfast in the morning.
Also we saw no official restaurants, in the traditional sense. A sign outside someone’s home “Food”. When you enter, there is maybe two or three tables. No menu offered! Go in and sit and eat what they bring you! What an adventure! The food was always outstanding! Even homemade ice cream or pies for dessert.

Highly recommended to travel while in the country!

Our friend who was driving us around was very proud of his country. He knew I was a minister, so one day he took us on a detour of our planned route. He took me to a place translated “God falls” Goðafoss.
When we went there is was completely frozen over, but I hear it is magnificent when thawed. Anyway the story goes that In the year 1000 the Lawspeaker Þorgeir Ljósvetningagoði made Christianity the official religion of Iceland. After his conversion Þorgeir threw his statues of the Norse gods into the waterfall. (Google search)

They threw their idols into these waters after converting to Christianity!

Iceland also offers whale, dolphin and puffin watching excursions.
For the athletic and adventurous, glazier climbing expeditions.

One thing that really impressed me was the ice, whether it was hanging from the eyes of a house or on a frozen lake or streem. Even the snow was glacial blue. Some things so beautiful and mesmerizing! Iceland Wow!

Beautiful, but looks super cold...

Thanks Rod! The temperature is actually warmer than the coldest it gets in Virginia. The warm season is shorter, but I witnessed over 70 degrees there. Also very green!

@mhm-philippines This was a great post, I'm glad you shared it. I loved the joke! I thought it was very interesting that the language is like what the vikings spoke. Take care!

Great you checked it out! Thanks for commenting!
God bless!

Definitely! You as well!
