Temple Street is a street that locates in the regions of Jordan and Yau Ma Tei in Kowloon, Hong Kong. It is famous for its night market and also known as one of the busiest flea markets at night. The night market locates in the Yau Ma Tei in the area of Jordan.

The evening Temple Street is very popular among travelers and local people. At that time it holds a big crowed. Merchandise and food items are sold in reasonable price in this market. Sometimes this market is called “Men’s Street”.

This market area was constructed during the Qing Dynasty and its name was kept after a Tin Hau temple which was made on the place.

Temple Street Night Market

Night market at the Temple Street is occasionally called “Men’s Street” since it is famous for men’s fashion. However, the market opens at 2 pm., but most people gather in the evening regularly. No traffic is allowed through this area at the dusk as people start moving in a swarm.

Above one hundred stalls decorated with colorful lights are built in the market. There are carts bulging which contain various items such as cloths, mobile phones, watches, etc. There are various items available in stalls like t-shirts, jeans, pants, shoes, condoms, lighters and men’s accessories.

Mainly low-priced goods are found in the night market. You can find inexpensive second hand products including video tapes, cassettes, old newspapers, and antiques. People can negotiate the prices with the sellers by bargaining.

While buying products in Temple Street, it is suggested that one should look for shops that are concealed behind the stalls. This is common in Temple Street Night Market.

Attractions

Travelers can not only do shopping, but they can also enjoy watching a Cantonese opera show.

Old Chinese Clinics 

There are old Chinese clinics located on this street which provide Traditional Chinese medicine for healing diseases. They are called TCM physician and many people have visited these health center for several years. 

Food and beverage

Snacks and roadside dining make Temple Street Night Market famous among travelers. It offers local street food.  Tasty local delicacies are sold by them.

There are also many restaurants which offer seafood. These items can be suitable for a friendly dinner. They are not only tasty, but also affordable.  Long-established and exclusive food culture of Hong Kong is symbolized by all of these culinary delicacies.

Temple Street Festival

During September 2003, the Home Affairs Bureau and the Hong Kong Tourism Board managed and held the inaugural Temple Street Festival.  

Transport

Jordan and Yau Ma Tei are the closest Mass Transit Railway stations (MTR) which help the visitors reach Temple Street. 

In famous culture

The location of Temple Street is pleasing for film shooting. This place is frequently utilized to draft pictures of all steps of life in Hong Kong. This area is represented as a street of crime by several gangster films. This area is featured in various movies such as The Prince of Temple Street released in 1992 and Queen of Temple Street released in 1990, The God of Cookery, the Stephen Chow film, the Fiona Sit series, and the TVB series Street Fighters.

Hong Kong! My favorite place in the world. Were you visiting Hong Kong or living there?

Everyone's favorite place. No, I do live there.

I don't know about everyone but definitely a great place and the first place I visited, also where my dad is from. Very nostalgic feeling for me. I was lucky to spend a few weeks working out of there and the office was right by the central escalator. Longest outdoor escalator in the world which was also in "The Dark Knight" movie. IMO I think it's faster paced than New York and I've never seen people hit the "close" button on the elevator so often, and so fast!
