Civita di Bagnoregio - a beautiful tourist spot in Italy
Civita di Bagnoregio is a city which exists in the region of Viterbo in central Italy. It is located nearly 120 kilometers north of Rome.
Etruscans established Civita more than 2,500 years ago. Saint Bonaventure was born here and passed away in 1274. Many years ago his boyhood house has fallen off the border of the rock. By the 16th century, the decline of Civita had been started. Its previous suburb Bagnoregio adopted Civita.
At the end of the 17th century, the bishop and the municipal government had to go to Bagnorego due to a major earthquake that increased the damage of the old town. At that period, it was in the jurisdiction of the Papal States. During the 19th century, the location of Civita started to turn into an island and the speed of the erosion increased since the layer of soil under the stone was arrived in the region where today’s bridge exists. Bagnoregio is still a small but happy city, while Civita is gradually declining. It has recently been a tourist spot.
