Happy New Year!!!

For a lot of people around the world snow and basically winter is a sign of new year, but in some countries like Iran it works a bit differently and actually winter is the end of the year.to be honest this actually makes sense even more, at the spring when the everything start growing again we start our celebration for the new year. Tomorrow is that day, the beginning of our 1396 th year of solar hijri calender.

Like Christmas people start buying new things and getting ready for the Norooz(no=new, rooz=day). At the day of Norooz and before the exact moment of Norooz (it is not at 00:00 as you are used to, it changes every year, for example this year the exact tim of Norooz is 13:58:40) people sit on the floor or around a table which has 7 items that are starting with “S sound” in Persian. This table is called Haft Seen (seven Ss)
Each item is supposed to represent a message
samanu - a sweet pudding made from wheat germ (symbolizing affluence)
sabzeh - wheat, barley or lentil sprouts growing in a dish (symbolizing rebirth in nature)

seeb - apples, (beauty and health)
somaq - sumac berries (patience)
serkeh - vinegar (cleanness)
senjed - the dried fruit of the jujube tree (symbol of love)
seer - garlic (symbol of not being greedy, and being fair)
There is another one which was added after coins(maybe add one latter to represent digital coin:) )
sekkeh - coins (prosperity and wealth)

our traditions for the Norooz does not finish just by 7 Seen, it actually starts!
the next thing to do is to visit grandparents and elderlies of the family, it is frond upon if younger ones don't go and visit them, I myself usually don't go on travel and visit my grandparents, but tomorrow it is a must for me (and I am gonna do it).

Travel

during Norooz nobody actually stays at home alone, people either are traveling or hosting visitors(pretty a busy time for everyone). Iran has a lot of beautiful places which gives us various options, if you like nature, sea and jungles , you have north of Iran as an option

If you are a fan of deserts and artistic buildings with great architecture , you can go to Yazd or Isfahan which are reside in center of Iran .

basically for 15 days the whole country is off(too much holidays I know) and people just have fun :) )
