Cape Kaliakra in Bulgaria.

Cape Kaliakra is one of the most beautiful and charming places in Bulgaria. It extends into the sea for 2 km and is the longest cape on the entire Black Sea coast of Bulgaria. Its name in translation means "Beautiful Cape" and is associated with the crimson color of its cliffs. Cape Kaliakra and the archaeological reserve, which is located on its territory, are located 12 km southeast of the city of Kavarna. This is one of the biggest tourist attractions on the Black Sea due to its rich history, preserved nature and beautiful panorama.
From all sides the height of the steep rocks reaches 60-70 m. The waves broke through the caves and arches at the foot of the rocks, which can only be reached by sea. In the past, these cave-tunnels were connected with the fortress and served for loading and unloading ships.
Kaliakra in our days is a natural and archaeological reserve. On an area of ​​almost 69 hectares you can see both the wild steppe and amazing coastal rocks. Plants have more than 400 species. About 310 species of birds have been identified on the territory of Kaliakra, 100 of which are specially protected. 106 species are very important for the biological diversity of the whole of Europe. In these places nests long-nosed / or crested / cormorant (Phalacrocorax aristotelis). The value of Kaliakra is extremely important during the migration, since here passes the second largest in Europe flight route - Via pontica. Over Kaliakra, every autumn, from August to October, flies a huge number of birds - more than 29 thousand storks, pelicans and cranes, more than 3 thousand birds of prey, including those that are endangered in the world - Circus macrourus, Falco cherrug and eagle -Country / Aquila heliaca /. In the sea around the promontory you can often see dolphins.
