Travel tips

in #travel7 years ago

I am a frequent traveler - I travel overseas at least 12 months a month.
I have learned some pretty valuable tricks - I'm going to share these here from time to time.
I'll start in Hong Kong

  1. when changing currency - shop around - generally smaller money changers, off the main streets offer MUCH better rates
  2. Use the airport express - not only is this quick and relatively inexpensive, it also offers you free transport to most major hotels on a series of bus circuits - however, if you are traveling in groups of 3 or more and can all fit in one taxi, get a taxi.
  3. Linked to the airport express, but not exclusive, is in town checkin. you can check in for your flight up to 12 hours before you travel. the great part is, you can check your bags, get your boarding pass and then explore more downtown and head to the airport later. There are stations in Tsing Yi, Kowloon and Hong Kong iteself.
  4. For those you like to stay active while you're away, there are fantastic promenades, especially on the Kowloon side that offers a great 8k round run.
  5. Free wifi is available in most restaurants and food chains. Open a starbucks account - depending on your level, you can get upto 24 hours free wifi off one purchase.
  6. When standing in passport /processing ques, always try to be in the que nearest to elderly of any other specialist que. As soon as its line clears, staff generally pull general travelers into this special que. This can cut waiting time into a fraction.

So much more to share, more will come. Let me know what you think
