The Uffington White Horse, Berkshire Downs, UK
Not too far across the Berkshire Downs from the famous pre-historic chambered tomb of Wayland's Smithy is another gem of our pre-historic past; the Uffington White Horse.
It's hard to make out the stylised design from ground level, with only hints through the grass at what the whole figure might represent, but it sharply comes into focus from above.

This beautiful and enigmatic prehistoric hill figure dating from the Iron Age (800 BC–AD 100) or the late Bronze Age (1000–700 BC), is 110m, 360ft long and was made by cutting deep trenches and filling them with crushed chalk.
The horse sits on White Horse Hill, 1.6 miles south of Uffington, and is today owned and managed by the National Trust as a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
