The way to a cuban car: MERCEDES PONTON

Basically, the Mercedes ponton is not a Cuban car but, as you know, a German make from the days of the German economic miracle of the fifties. In Cuba, about 60,000 such classic cars drive on the streets. Since only 3 percent of the population owns a car, the chance is very great to see such classic cars.

After the revolution it was still allowed to own cars, but only if they had been built before 1959. However, since it is mostly just American imports, the Mercedes Ponton is a real highlight on Cuba's streets.

Der Weg zur einen kubanischen Auto: MERCEDES PONTON

Im Grunde genommen ist der Mercedes Ponton kein kubanisches Auto sondern bekanntlich ein deutsches Fabrikat aus den Zeiten des deutschen Wirtschaftswunders aus den fünfziger Jahren. In Kuba fahren ungefähr 60.000 solcher Oldtimer auf den Straßen. Da nur 3 Prozent der Bevölkerung ein Auto besitzt, ist die Chance sehr groß solchen Oldtimer zu sehen.

Nach der Revolution war es weiterhin erlaubt Autos zu besitzen, allerdings nur wenn Sie vor 1959 gebaut worden waren. Da es sich allerdings meistens nur um amerikanische Importe handelt, ist der Mercedes Ponton ein echtes Highlight auf Kubas Straßen.
