Something similar happened to my couchsurfing host in Tehran, we both were careless enough to stand by the road with the phones out. I got lucky, though. They took his phone and not mine. Still a very bad day for both of us, I really feel for the dude, that's not fair.

One of my friends had her phone stolen from her handbag while riding on the back of a motorbike in Bali. Another friend had her bag snatched while she was driving a motorbike in Cambodia. It caused her to wreck too. Keep your bags and phones secure on the streets of southeast Asia.
