5 stunning Barbados beaches off the tourist path worth exploring

in #travel7 years ago

Many travellers dream of exploring deserted beaches on their holidays so they can fully enjoy the beauty of nature and creation. Also for locals these spots offer a chance to “breeze” from their busy every day schedules.
Here are 5 mesmerising beaches that will offer just that special feeling…

Batts Rock Beach

Most west coast beaches are well accessible due to the high number of Hotels and Villas. Batts Rock beach however still remains off the usual tourist path.

Located just a few minutes from the capital city of Bridgetown, Batts Rock is a designated Public Beach area and has picnic benches, shower and changing facilities. During the weekend locals like to have picnics under the tall shady trees next to the beach.

The sea here is calm and excellent for swimming while the crystal-clear waters and small rocky areas also make it an interesting snorkeling location.

Maycocks Bay

Maycocks Bay is an idyllic untouched spot on the north-west coast of Barbados.

Getting here can be quite the adventure as the beach is not accessible by road and visitors will have to look for paths leading through the lush vegetation to the beachside.

From the clifftop overlooking the bay, you'll enjoy fabulous views up and down the coastline. Whales are often spotted here in the early morning between December and April.

Swimming is not recommended at Maycocks Bay as there are rough waves and strong currents in the area. The reefs do make it a good spot for snorkelling and scuba diving with the possibility of exploring shipwrecks.

Harrismith beach

Harrismith Beach is located on the south east coast of the island just a short walk from the more popular Bottom Bay.

The beach at Harrismith offers a shallow lagoon protected by the reef which is ideal for a relaxing dip. As this beach is very remote and easily accecible at the same time you will hardly find any vistors here.

A series of old stone steps leads down to the beach from the clifftop. Overlooking the beach are the ruins of an old plantation house which make this location a prime spot for taking stunning pictures.

Sam Lord’s Castle beach

Located in the parish of St.Philip, Sam Lord's Castle was a beautiful Georgian mansion built in 1820 by the notorious buccaneer Samuel Hall Lord, known as 'Sam Lord'.

Legend has it that Sam Lord acquired his wealth by plundering ships, which he lured onto the reefs off the coast, by hanging lanterns in the coconut trees. Captains mistook these lights for Bridgetown and wrecked their ships on the reefs.

The property was run as an exquisite hotel for many years but unfortunately it was consumed by fire in 2010, from which point on the was reclaimed by nature.

The beach offers a shallow protected lagoon for a refreshing dip and a wild and breathtaking scenery only the best post cards can compete with.

Foul Bay beach

Located on the south east coast of Barbados, Foul Bay is absolutely beautiful expanse of white sandy beach overlooked by rugged cliffs.

The beach serves as a spot for locals to have picnics on the weekends. During the week few visitors will make it here any you may find having this stunning and expansive stretch of beach to yourself at times.

Caution is advised when going swimming as the waves can be very rough and there are no lifeguards on duty
