Travel India #1 : Southern most point on mainland India, Kanniakumari

in #travel7 years ago

Hello fellow Steemians

Today I am doing a travel blog of my trip to southern most point in mainland India, Cape Comorin. Travelling to South India was one of the thing that was on my bucket list, so when I got a chance to study in Karnataka it was the much needed opportunity that I was looking forward to and I grabbed the chance. So without blabbering much let me show you the journey to Cape Comorin.

This image is of the place I visited, he statue you see is the statue of Thiruvalluvar who was a Tamil poet and philosopher. The statue is 133 feet in height. including the pedestal which depicts the 133 chapters in the Thirukkural. It has a weight of 7000 tonnes. Adjacent to it is the Swami Vivekananda Rock Memorial this is the place where Swami Vivekananda is said to have attained enlightenment.

So my journey started with a train ride to the Kanniakumari station with my friends as you can see us all in the picture.

This is us reaching the Kanniakumari Station and beginning our wonderful journey.

So after getting fresh at our hotel we headed towards our destination. In order to to get to the memorial you will have to take the ferry service. This is us waiting in the queue for our turn to get into the ferry.

Finally after waiting for 20 minutes or so we got our turn to get into the ferry.

These are the images taken from the ferry so clarity is not there. It is a huge statue which is awe inspiring to look at. Just the immense labor and man hours put in its construction must be tremendous.

From the ferry we got off at Swami Vivekananda Rock memorial. As you can the the memorial is quite spectacular and the thought that it is built at the place where Swami Vikekananda attained enlightenment is just can't be put into words.

The spectacular view of the Indian Ocean. There is a room at the memorial where the tourist can have a relaxing meditation session and can try to reach enlightenment(didn't happen for us though :P ).
